Neeraja is a Malayalam romantic drama movie directed by Rajesh Raman. This is an official remake of the award winning Kannada movie Nathicharami(2018). The film stars actor Shruti Ramachandran, Jinu Joseph and Guru Somasundaram in lead roles.
Story Plot
Neeraja is a widow who lives alone surrounded by the memories of her late husband. However, she faces mental traumas and other sexual difficulties throughout her life journey. The unfolding events form the crux of the story.
Short Review
Neeraja has an interesting plot. Director Rajesh K Raman has made some changes from the original version of this movie to suit the Malayalam audience, but in the process, he missed the essence of the story. The writer has shown very little understanding of women’s mental health issues and desires, which is evident from the final output. The way Shruthi handles the changes in her life and her sudden recovery is somewhat unrelatable. The movie does explore sensitive elements of women’s sexual life, which is a bold attempt. Shruthi Ramachandran’s chemistry with Govind Padmasurya is definitely a positive aspect of the movie. All the actors delivered decent performances, which is another positive. Overall, Neeraja is a bold attempt that falls short in terms of writing.
